Dalhart Elementary School houses close to 600 students with 85 staff. It includes Pre-K, Head Start and Kindergarten through Third Grade classrooms. We welcome parents, families and the community to become involved in the many varied activities and programs offered at DES. Please let your child's classroom teacher know if you are willing to serve on any of our campus committees to help us plan for another successful school year at DES.

The mission of Dalhart Elementary is to provide an educational climate in which each student can learn and be successful. The administration and faculty of Dalhart Elementary strive to ascertain that each student develops mentally, physically, socially and emotionally to the maximum of his/her potential. Dalhart Elementary provides guidance, motivation and curriculum in a positive atmosphere to ensure success for each student to obtain a knowledgeable background for functioning effectively and successfully at the elementary level.
The DISD campuses had a safety audit. The following recommendations were given to DES to improve the safety and security of all of our students. We need your cooperation and compliance with these new safety rules.
1. During crosswalk times, arrival 7:30-8:15 and dismissal 2:45-3:30, students will be in the front drive to use the crosswalk. Please do not drive in our front drive at these times. It will relieve traffic congestion on Tennessee Avenue and not block our crosswalk. It is for the safety of our children.
2. It was recommended not to have more than 3 doors open during arrival so we can provide adequate safety supervision. The only doors that will be unlocked for arrival will be the back cafeteria door, the North door that opens at the North drive and the front door. We need cars in the back drive to drive completely up to the stop sign just like dismissal duty. Staff will be in the cafeteria to supervise the students and help them to their classes. No other back door will be open. This will relieve traffic congestion on 16th Street and hopefully prevent passing in the back drive.
3. Parents/Visitors are asked to only come in the front door. We are asking that parents/visitors not be in the hallways. Parents/visitors need to check in at the front desk. You need to park across the street at the swimming pool if you need to come into the school during arrival or dismissal times.
4. Parents/Visitors are asked to stay in the front hallway and not go down to the classes during regular school days. If you need to talk to a teacher or a student- we will get them to come down to the office area. It is less disruptive to the learning environment if you can make an appointment during the teacher’s conference time. If you need to deliver something to the classroom, the DES staff will be glad to get this delivered. If there is an emergency situation and you must enter a hallway, we ask that you leave your driver’s license at the front desk and then retrieve it when you leave the building.
We apologize for any inconvenience. These changed procedures are made for the safety and security of all students at Dalhart Elementary School. New procedures begin March 17.
